WWPlayer documentation

Bring your personal media sources together in one Windows player.

For WWPlayer 1.3.0Updated 2026-10-06

WWPlayer is a Windows desktop client for personal media libraries. Connect Emby, Jellyfin, FN TV, local folders, WebDAV, OpenList, OneDrive and SMB to browse, search, view title details, organize lists and play media in one interface.

WWPlayer does not provide, store or distribute movies or TV content. Bring your own legally accessible media servers, network storage or local media, and ensure you have the rights to access that content.

Quick start

1. Install WWPlayer

Choose a release format:

  • Microsoft Store / MSIX: installed and managed by Windows, recommended for everyday use.
  • Portable: run WWPlayer.exe from the extracted folder, without a traditional installer.

WWPlayer targets Windows 10 / 11 x64. The built-in player depends on your graphics drivers, audio devices and system media capabilities. Keep Windows and your graphics drivers in working order.

2. Add your first media source

  1. Open Servers in the left sidebar.
  2. Click the add button.
  3. Choose Emby, Jellyfin, FN TV, WebDAV, OpenList, OneDrive, SMB or a local folder.
  4. Enter the address and credentials, select a folder, or complete browser authorization.
  5. Run the source's login, connection or access test where required.
  6. Save after the test succeeds.

3. Browse and play

  • Media servers provide their own home, libraries, Continue Watching and recently added content.
  • File-based sources provide folder browsing; supported sources can also build a library view from matched metadata.
  • Open a title, choose the episode and source, then start playback.
  • Pro can combine versions of the same title from multiple sources and switch between them in title details or the player.

4. Connect external services as needed

  • TMDB: metadata, images, discovery sections and media matching.
  • Trakt: playback history, Continue Watching, recommendations and episode calendars.
  • Bangumi: anime collection status and broadcast calendars.
  • WWPlayer account: profile, cloud settings and online NEXUS sharing.
  • WebDAV settings backup: back up settings to your own WebDAV storage; requires Pro.

Media server accounts, your WWPlayer account, Trakt, Bangumi and Microsoft Store licensing are independent. Signing in to one does not sign you in to or unlock another.

Installation, updates and data locations

Microsoft Store / MSIX

Windows manages Store app data:

  • Persistent settings and user-managed data are stored in the app package's LocalState.
  • Regenerable images, metadata, thumbnails, danmaku, playback caches and logs are stored in LocalCache.

Use the log, cache, screenshot or configuration entries in Settings to find the actual folders. Avoid editing app package folders directly.

Portable

Portable means no installation is required, not that all settings live beside the executable. Official Portable releases use:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\WWPlayer-Portable

Moving or deleting the program folder normally leaves your settings behind. Use account sync, WebDAV settings backup or the app's import/export tools to migrate to another device.

Non-Store development and standard desktop environments

The default persistent data folder is:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\WWPlayer

The file layout may change between versions. Except when troubleshooting, do not manually overwrite configuration files while the app is running.

Check for updates

Open Settings > About > Check for updates. Store releases open or use Microsoft Store for updates; other formats follow their release channel.

Add media sources

There are two kinds of source:

  • Media servers: Emby, Jellyfin and FN TV provide accounts, libraries, details, watched status and server-side playback information.
  • File-based media sources: local folders, WebDAV, OpenList, OneDrive and SMB provide folder and file access. Some also support scanning and TMDB matching.

Supported sources

SourceConnectionMain capabilities
EmbyAddress, username, passwordLibraries, details, episodes, favorites, progress, versions and connections
JellyfinAddress, username, passwordLibraries, details, progress and playback through compatible Jellyfin APIs
FN TVFN ID or address, accountLibraries, details and playback, subject to the server's APIs
WebDAVAddress, folder, username, passwordBrowse, scan and play files; TMDB matching with Pro
OpenListWebDAV address and accountBrowse, scan and play files; TMDB matching with Pro
OneDriveBrowser sign-in or advanced token settingsCloud folders, media scanning and playback
SMB\\NAS\Media or smb://NAS/MediaBrowse and play files on local network shares
Local foldersWindows folder pickerLocal scanning and playback; TMDB matching with Pro

Server versions, API permissions, reverse proxies and folder structures affect availability. WWPlayer displays only data actually supplied by a source or successfully matched.

Emby

  1. Choose Emby when adding a source.
  2. Enter a name.
  3. Enter the host, port and optional path, for example:

    https://emby.example.com
    http://192.168.1.20:8096
  4. Enter your Emby username and password.
  5. Choose whether to use the system proxy.
  6. Click the login test.
  7. Save after it succeeds.

Source settings let you manage the name, icon, connections and login state. Multiple connections can represent LAN, remote or backup endpoints. Changing a connection affects subsequent requests to that server without duplicating its library.

Jellyfin

Follow the Emby steps, but select Jellyfin as the source type. WWPlayer uses the corresponding compatibility requests; features still depend on the Jellyfin version, plugins and account permissions.

Do not label a Jellyfin server as Emby to bypass detection. The correct type lets WWPlayer select the appropriate compatibility policy.

FN TV

  1. Choose FN TV.
  2. Enter an FN ID or an accessible FN TV address.
  3. Enter your account information.
  4. Complete the login test and save.

Media fields and playback capabilities depend on FN TV's current API responses and may differ from Emby or Jellyfin.

WebDAV

  1. Choose WebDAV.
  2. Enter the server address, port and path.
  3. Optionally limit scanning with Media folder; leave it empty to start at the configured root.
  4. Enter your WebDAV username and login or app password.
  5. Test the connection and save.

WWPlayer builds a folder index in the background. Free users can browse and play files; Pro adds automatic TMDB matching and manual corrections.

OpenList

Connect through OpenList's WebDAV endpoint, commonly /dav. Enter the address, port, WebDAV credentials and media folder, then test and save.

Playback reliability depends on the returned download URL, redirects, expiration, Range support and upstream cloud storage limits.

OneDrive

Browser authorization is recommended:

  1. Choose OneDrive.
  2. Click Sign in to OneDrive using a browser.
  3. Authorize your Microsoft account in the browser.
  4. Return to WWPlayer and wait for the account and root folder to be confirmed.

Advanced users can enter a Client ID, Refresh Token, Tenant, optional Client Secret and root Item ID under advanced token access. Do not share these credentials or include them in public issues.

SMB

  1. Choose SMB.
  2. Enter a share path, for example:

    \\NAS\Media
    smb://NAS/Media
  3. Test access and save.

SMB is mainly for local network shares. If access fails, confirm Windows can open the share, network discovery works, and share permissions and cached credentials are correct.

Local folders

  1. Choose Local.
  2. Click Choose folder.
  3. Allow WWPlayer to scan it.

Local sources support file browsing and playback. Pro can match movies, series and episodes with TMDB to build a library with posters, backdrops, summaries and categories.

Scanning, matching and corrections

File-based sources scan in the background after saving. Source cards show folder, file, matched and unmatched counts.

You can browse files or the matched library, rescan, stop a scan, manually match or correct an item, remove its match, or delete a source.

Automatic matching relies on filenames, folder structure, season and episode information, and external metadata. Clear names help:

Movie Name (2024).mkv
Series Name (2024)\Season 01\Series Name S01E01.mkv

A failed scan does not automatically delete an existing index. Before removing a source, check whether home sections, playback history or other settings still reference it.

Browsing, search and title details

Source home

A media server can provide a carousel, Continue Watching, recently added content, favorites, libraries and categories, movies, series, seasons and episodes.

File-based sources provide a file browser and, where matching data exists, movie and series library views.

Search

Search has three scopes:

  1. Current source: searches only the current server or data scope.
  2. Aggregated search Pro: queries eligible media servers in parallel and groups results by source.
  3. Module search: installed modules with participation in aggregated search enabled can join the results.

Older requests do not overwrite results for newer keywords. If one source fails, results from successful sources can still appear.

Title details

Depending on the source, details can include:

  • Title, original title, year, summary, genres and certification.
  • Posters, backdrops and artwork.
  • Available TMDB, IMDb, Douban and other ratings.
  • Cast, directors, people details and trailers.
  • Seasons, episodes and viewing progress.
  • Similar titles and recommendations.
  • Video, audio, subtitles, resolution, codec, dynamic range, bit depth, bitrate and frame rate.
  • Versions of the same media from other sources.

Missing server fields may leave a section hidden. Identical titles do not necessarily identify the same media; aggregation prefers public TMDB, IMDb or TVDB identities and accurate season/episode information.

Aggregated versions and source selection

Pro combines versions of a movie or episode from multiple servers and modules when their identities match. Each version keeps its actual source; media is not copied to one server.

Available information and filters include the server and connection, special formats, resolution, codec, dynamic range, bitrate, file size, audio tracks and subtitles.

Episodes must match the correct series, season and episode. A similar title with insufficient identity information is not forced into the current episode's sources.

Viewing reactions

Title details can show popular community reactions and play them as animated emoji.

  • Viewing public reactions and animations does not require a WWPlayer account.
  • Sign in to choose and submit your own reaction.
  • Each account has one current reaction per TMDB movie or series; a new selection replaces the old one.
  • Signing in to a media server is not signing in to a WWPlayer account.

Automatic reaction animations display existing results only; they do not submit a reaction for you.

Home and sections

Home is an editable content dashboard. Homes are available in both Free and Pro. Sections using restricted capabilities, such as cross-server aggregation or file metadata matching, still require the corresponding license.

Enable Home

Turn on Enable Home under Settings > General to use the top home entry and home management.

New installations include a default home. Existing configurations retain their sections, order and sources.

Multiple homes

Create separate homes for movies, series, anime, kids, local media or live TV.

Home management supports empty and default homes, file import, name and icon changes, reordering, choosing a main home, deletion and quick switching at the top.

Startup opens the main home. Temporarily switching to another home does not make it the main home.

Separate playback history

A home can enable Separate playback history:

  • Playback started from that home stays in its history.
  • It is not reported to other local Continue Watching sources or Trakt.
  • Other history does not automatically appear in that home.

This separates viewing records, not Windows users or media server accounts.

Carousel

Each home has its own carousel source and item count. Sources can include built-in providers, modules, servers, lists and other available data.

You can also disable pagination to arrange sections continuously on one home.

Section sources

Sections can use:

  • TMDB popular, trending, top-rated, now-playing and categorized titles.
  • Domestic and international streaming platforms and production companies.
  • Trakt popular, trending, anticipated, recommended, collection, list and calendar data.
  • Bangumi broadcast calendars.
  • Emby, Jellyfin and FN TV libraries and recently added content.
  • Matched local, WebDAV, OpenList and other media.
  • Watchlists and custom lists.
  • Installed modules.
  • M3U / M3U8 live TV.

Section layouts

The editor offers trending, posters, landscape posters, wide cards, ranked, compact, ratings, spotlight, collage, large categories, small categories, leaderboards, local folders, calendar and TV layouts.

Not every layout suits every source. Specialized calendar and TV layouts require the corresponding data type.

Import and export homes

Export a home as:

<home-name>.wwhome.json

The file includes the layout and referenced non-built-in modules, but not WWPlayer accounts, media server credentials, caches or module runtime storage.

Importing does not overwrite existing homes. It assigns new local identities, validates format and module dependencies, and requires local sources such as servers, folders and lists to be rebound. A required module validation failure does not leave a partial home.

Lists and watched status

Watchlist and custom lists

Add movies and series to your watchlist or create custom lists. Lists can feed home sections, NEXUS sharing and local import/export.

Every exported item needs a public identity such as TMDB, IMDb or TVDB. Local or module items without one must be matched before a portable list can be created.

Favorites

Server favorites are written back according to server capabilities. Aggregated favorites require Pro and combine eligible servers' favorites.

Watched status

Actions include marking a movie watched or unwatched, marking a series through an episode, marking a season or series, clearing progress, removing an item from Continue Watching, and saving progress when playback stops or completes.

Server media writes back to its server. Local, storage and module media uses local history. Progress across similarly named items is combined only when identities are sufficiently clear.

Continue Watching sources

Choose regular history, aggregated history Pro or Trakt history.

Pin one as the home default. This changes the displayed source without copying or rewriting the three kinds of record.

Player

Built-in libmpv and external mpv

ModeFeaturesNotes
Built-in libmpvIntegrated UI, playback state, captures, danmaku and settingsDepends on local drivers and the built-in engine
External mpvUses your selected mpv.exeUses its own configuration and scripts; some built-in interactions are unavailable

Choose the engine under Settings > Player. External mpv requires a valid mpv.exe path.

Stable and Beta engines

Both channels use the same playback state and normal playback flow. Beta enables experimental capabilities such as next-episode media preloading.

Choose Stable for compatibility, or Beta to try next-episode preloading.

Playback routes

WWPlayer builds a playback plan from the source response and compatibility policy. Routes include:

  • Direct static files.
  • Server stream URLs.
  • Server-managed HLS.
  • WebDAV, OpenList, OneDrive, SMB or local files.
  • HTTP(S) resources supplied by modules.
  • Redirects, STRM files and links resolved within defined limits.

Failures can switch only among explicitly permitted candidates, within a limit. They do not trigger unlimited retries or turn arbitrary errors into reported success.

Playback controls

Controls include:

  • Play, pause, rewind and fast-forward.
  • Seeking and buffered ranges.
  • Volume, mute and maximum volume.
  • Playback speed and remembered speed.
  • Windowed, borderless fullscreen and exclusive fullscreen.
  • Remembered window size and position.
  • Episode selection and next episode.
  • Audio, subtitle, danmaku and segment menus.
  • Source switching during playback.
  • Media information and source badges.
  • Screenshots and GIFs.
  • Always on top.
  • OSD network speed, progress, media time and system clock.

Seeking requirements

Reliable seeking is required. Live streams, some HLS, expired signed URLs, HTTP resources without Range support and certain server transcodes may not allow arbitrary seeking.

An unavailable seek bar usually reflects source limitations, not a broken player window. Try another version or connection.

Buffering and full caching

Set buffer duration, cache capacity, playback cache folder and Fully cache the current episode.

Full caching takes over normal buffering settings and prevents next-episode media preloading. It prioritizes caching the current media but uses more disk space and network reading time.

Next-episode preloading

Preloading requires:

  • The built-in Beta engine.
  • The global switch enabled.
  • Permission for the current server.
  • Full caching of the current episode turned off.
  • The next episode sharing the current source identity.
  • A supported resource type.
  • Playback near the end, with clear evidence that current caching has completed.

Supported resources include eligible HTTP(S) MP4, MKV, WebM and some on-demand HLS. Live or endless HLS, unstable transcodes, unresolved resources and identity-mismatched sources are not forced into preloading.

“Preloaded” means usable cache data is prepared, not that the next episode has presented a frame or been reported as playing. Stopping, switching sources, closing the player or changing the target cancels the old preload.

Video and HDR

The built-in player supports:

  • gpu-next and gpu output.
  • Auto-safe hardware decoding, D3D11, D3D11 Copy and software decoding.
  • Automatic or manual GPU selection.
  • Follow Windows HDR, force SDR or force HDR.
  • Auto, Clip, BT.2390 and Reinhard tone mapping.
  • HDR peak detection.
  • Anime4K upscaling Pro.

For black screens, artifacts, dropped frames or incorrect HDR colors, restore output, GPU, decoding and HDR to automatic, then change one option at a time.

Anime4K increases GPU load. Start with lighter presets on low-power devices, integrated graphics or high-resolution media.

Audio

Choose no enhancement, stereo downmix, dialogue enhancement or night mode, with a maximum player volume from 100% to 200%.

Above 100% uses software gain and may distort. If audio crackles, return to 100% and check system and speaker volume.

Custom mpv.conf

The built-in player can use a custom mpv.conf. Settings controlled by that file are marked accordingly, including default subtitles/audio, hardware decoding, GPU, subtitle styles, audio enhancements and Anime4K.

Avoid conflicting settings in the file and UI. Disable the custom file temporarily when troubleshooting.

Subtitles, danmaku and segments

Subtitle sources

The player groups online subtitles Pro, imported local subtitles, server-side external subtitles and embedded tracks.

Local formats include SRT, ASS, SSA, SUB, VTT and SUP. Rendering also depends on encoding, fonts, timing and libmpv's support for the particular file.

Subtitle adjustments

Adjust default language, enabled state and track, size, position, delay, font and color, default/outline-and-shadow/background-box style, and outline, shadow and background colors and opacity.

Playback adjustments preview immediately. Properties owned by a custom mpv.conf cannot also be changed through those controls.

Online subtitles

Online subtitles require Pro. Open the subtitle menu, choose online subtitles, search by movie or series name, then download and load a result.

Results depend on available providers. If a search, download or subtitle is unsuitable, change the query or use a local file. Failed downloads are not presented as loaded tracks.

Danmaku

Under Settings > Subtitles & Danmaku, you can:

  • Enable or turn off danmaku.
  • Add, remove and reorder up to five compatible APIs.
  • Enable each API individually.
  • Set font, color, opacity and size.
  • Adjust speed, display area, on-screen count and timing offset.
  • Block top, bottom or scrolling comments.
  • Enable the comment activity heatmap.

The player can also load local danmaku files. Automatic matching depends on title, season, episode and API format. For incorrect matches, choose another source or match manually in the player.

WWPlayer does not guarantee third-party comment content or API availability.

Intros, credits and media segments

The segment menu supports no skipping, manual skip prompts, automatic skipping, viewing/selecting segment sources, setting intro start/end and credits start, and clearing manual markers.

Segments come from servers, external segment services or local markers. Manage providers and an optional TheIntroDB API Key under Settings > External connections.

Segment data affects playback start and skipping only; it does not modify the media file.

Screenshots and GIFs

Captures become available after actual video frames are presented:

  • Click the capture button for a screenshot.
  • Hold it to record a GIF of up to about 10 seconds.

An editor opens without immediately saving to your folder. Choose a default, movie-ticket or landscape instant-photo layout; toggle badges, source information, media time and watermark; save, copy and save, set as profile background, or cancel.

Set the save folder under Settings > Storage & cache. Canceling leaves no published file; the target file is written only on successful saving.

GIF previews and exports retain animation. Whether a copied GIF animates depends on the receiving app's clipboard format support.

Account and settings sync

What a WWPlayer account does

Your account provides a nickname and avatar, profile, monthly viewing statistics, cloud settings sync, reaction submissions and online NEXUS sharing.

It does not replace server accounts, Microsoft Store licensing, Trakt or Bangumi, and does not grant media access or Pro.

Registration, verification and sign-in

Registration requires a nickname, email, password of at least 10 characters, agreement to the terms and privacy policy, and a six-digit email code.

Explicitly resend a failed verification email rather than creating another account. Pending accounts can continue email verification from sign-in.

To reset a password, request a six-digit code by email and set a new password of 10–128 characters. Successful reset does not automatically sign you in and revokes old sessions.

First sign-in sync

The first successful sign-in for each account on each device reads the latest cloud settings and attempts one restore.

  • A successful restore records that first sync has completed locally.
  • If no cloud settings exist, current local settings remain; defaults are not uploaded automatically.
  • A failed restore keeps the valid login and reports that sync is incomplete.
  • Signing out does not clear the local first-sync record.
  • Later launches, account refreshes and sign-ins do not repeatedly overwrite local changes after first sync is complete.

Manual upload and restore

The profile offers:

  • Upload sync: update the cloud backup with current local settings.
  • Sync / Restore: restore the cloud version you confirm.

Uploads check versions. Concurrent changes on another device can produce a conflict: refresh the cloud state, decide which version to retain, then act again. WWPlayer does not retry automatically to overwrite it.

Restore preserves local Store licensing and playback history. Failed restores are not reported as successful.

Included and excluded data

Cloud settings can include server definitions, connections, homes, modules and general preferences, including server credentials needed to access media.

Restore does not overwrite Store licensing, installation identity, local playback history, diagnostics, window/device-specific paths, local subtitles or WebDAV backup credentials.

Transfers use HTTPS. The service authenticates the account and stores settings encrypted. This is managed encryption, not end-to-end encryption that only your devices can decrypt.

External connections

TMDB

TMDB supplies metadata, search, artwork, streaming-platform sections and local media matching.

You can enter a personal TMDB API Key. Supported requests then connect directly with your credentials; without a key, supported operations use WWPlayer's metadata service. An invalid key or unreachable direct connection does not silently become a successful request through another route.

TMDB has its own system, no-proxy or manual proxy setting and connection test.

Trakt

Connect Trakt for popular, trending and anticipated content, recommendations and personal lists, Trakt Continue Watching, episode calendars, and playback start/pause/stop reporting.

Signing out stops Trakt-dependent sections and sync. Local and server records remain.

Local or module items are reported only with trusted TMDB, IMDb, TVDB or Trakt identities, not guessed from filenames.

Bangumi

Connect with an Access Token to read supported collection status and anime broadcast calendars.

Click Get Token in Settings, authorize, then paste the token and connect. Treat it as an account credential and do not share it publicly.

Douban ratings

Experimental Douban ratings supplement matched titles. Website or API changes may affect them. Turning this off does not affect TMDB, IMDb or server ratings.

WebDAV settings backup

This Pro feature requires only a WebDAV folder URL, username, and WebDAV login or app password.

There is no separate backup password, and the login password is not used to derive a backup encryption key.

New backups are WWPLAYER_WEBDAV_CONFIG_V2 configuration snapshots. WebDAV permissions and HTTPS protect access. Snapshots may contain media server credentials, so a WebDAV service able to read the file may also read those settings.

WebDAV credentials themselves are excluded from the snapshot. Changing the login password affects later connections, not existing backup contents.

Legacy encrypted backups are not automatically decrypted or treated as empty settings. Upload a new-format backup from a device that still has valid settings.

Modules

Modules extend home data, search, details or playback sources. View built-in providers and installed modules under Settings > Modules.

Installation methods

  • Import a local JavaScript module.
  • Download from a module URL.
  • Preview and install from the FWD module index.
  • Install dependencies through a home file or NEXUS.

Declarations and code are checked before installation. Modules run in isolated Workers, but can still access permitted network targets and your configured parameters. Install only trusted modules.

Module capabilities

Modules can declare lists and categories, search, details, seasons and episodes, playback sources, parameters/credentials and network modes.

Global, code and source-specific parameters are saved separately. You can choose whether a module participates in aggregated search.

Module playback

Module sources use the same playback state machine as other sources. Failures do not create an alternative player flow, and metadata-only entries are not treated as playable media.

Module items save local history and can report to Trakt with a clear identity. A home with separate history does not report externally.

Updates and removal

Modules with a source URL can update from that URL. Removing a module also removes referencing home sections, category units and carousel references.

Check dependent homes before updating or removing a module. Runtime data is not automatically published to NEXUS or home sharing files.

NEXUS

NEXUS shares and loads homes, lists and modules.

Load a share code

  1. Open Settings > NEXUS > Load.
  2. Enter a share code.
  3. Click Load.
  4. Check the name, type and version.
  5. For a list, choose the lists page, a particular home, or both.

You can also load local NEXUS files, older home JSON, list JSON or JavaScript modules.

Sync the latest version

Online imports remember their origin and version. Sync latest version replaces that imported item in place:

  • A home replaces its corresponding contents.
  • A list replaces its destination list or section.
  • A module replaces the corresponding module.
  • No duplicate is created.
  • Local changes are not retained.
  • Superseded versions are not retained.

Export changes you want to keep first. Removed shares, unavailable versions and broken dependencies fail explicitly rather than silently choosing another version.

Share to NEXUS

Publishing online requires a WWPlayer account. Choose a local home, list or module, enter a three-part numeric version such as 1.0.0 and a description, optionally add screenshots for homes/modules, choose a section style for lists, set a public sharer ID, then upload or export a local file only.

Modules require a description. Updates must have a higher version; older versions are not offered for download after an update.

Homes and modules may require review. Pending creations cannot be updated again. The share code remains unchanged after approval.

Sharer ID

A sharer ID is a unique public credit and can differ from your nickname. Changing it updates all your online shares. It is not an account ID or a sign-in identifier.

Dependencies and privacy

NEXUS homes can include required modules. Modules are validated before installation with the home. Identical installed modules are reused; conflicts receive new local identities and the home's references are rewritten.

Do not share accounts, tokens, cookies, private server addresses or sensitive parameters. Review code, parameter defaults, screenshots and descriptions before publishing.

Free and Pro

The app's Microsoft Store information determines licensing, price, purchase options and duration.

Free

Free includes:

  • One Emby, Jellyfin or FN TV media server.
  • Local, WebDAV, OpenList, OneDrive and SMB file-based sources.
  • Server and folder browsing.
  • Homes, multiple homes, sections and modules.
  • Built-in libmpv or external mpv.
  • Subtitle tracks, local subtitles, danmaku, segments, screenshots and GIFs.
  • Local history, lists and watched status.
  • TMDB, Trakt and Bangumi connections.
  • WWPlayer account and settings sync.
  • Loading and locally exporting NEXUS content.

Added Pro features

Pro unlocks:

  • Multiple media servers without the one-server limit.
  • Search, favorites and Continue Watching across servers.
  • Aggregated versions and source switching in details and playback.
  • TMDB metadata matching, automatic matching and manual corrections for local, WebDAV and OpenList media.
  • Online subtitle search and loading.
  • Anime4K upscaling.
  • WebDAV settings backup and restore.

Homes and modules themselves are not Pro-exclusive. Only restricted data capabilities within a home follow its current license.

Licensing

  • Microsoft Store licensing determines Pro access.
  • WWPlayer and media server accounts do not grant Pro.
  • Expired licensing does not delete saved settings; only currently permitted capabilities are used.
  • Free uses the first valid configured media server. Upgrading makes the other saved servers usable again.

Settings reference

General

Enable Home, close to tray, home idle timeout, trending source/style, auto-collapse search, autoplay trailers, automatic reaction animations, collapsed descriptions, direct playback from Continue Watching cards, log folder/export and player diagnostics.

Appearance

Light/dark theme, accent color, poster scale, frosted details background, TMDB carousel backdrops and source badge packs.

Modules

Manage TMDB, Trakt and third-party providers; import modules from files or URLs; configure parameters and participation in aggregated search.

NEXUS

Load, sync, export and share homes, lists and modules.

Network

The software proxy and TMDB each have system, no-proxy and manual proxy options. Example:

http://127.0.0.1:7890

Ignoring SSL certificate validation requires restarting. It affects only eligible media requests, not strict TLS boundaries such as the central WWPlayer account service. Use it only if you understand self-signed certificate risks.

Player

Startup window mode, size/position, minimizing the main window during playback, remembered speed, built-in/external player, Stable/Beta, custom mpv.conf, buffering/full caching, default subtitles/audio, video output, decoding, GPU, Anime4K, audio enhancement, maximum volume, source labels, timeline thumbnails and OSD.

Subtitles & Danmaku

Subtitle styles, danmaku enablement, up to five APIs, and comment font, color, speed, area, count, offset and filtering.

Shortcuts

Edit player keys. Resolve conflicts before saving so one key does not trigger multiple actions.

Server management

Global aggregated search/Continue Watching/favorites switches Pro, per-server aggregation participation and categories, global next-episode preloading, and per-server preload permission.

Add, sign in, manage connections, scan and remove sources on the main Servers page.

Storage & cache

Screenshot/GIF folder, metadata cache usage and cleanup, image cache usage/expiration/capacity, and playback cache usage/folder/cleanup.

Clearing caches does not remove servers, homes, lists or settings. Corresponding images, metadata, thumbnails and cached media may need downloading or regenerating.

External connections

Manage TMDB, Douban ratings, Trakt, Bangumi, segment providers and WebDAV settings backup.

Three ways to migrate settings

MethodUse caseNotes
WWPlayer account syncMultiple devices with one accountOne first-sign-in restore, plus manual upload and restore
WebDAV settings backup ProYour own WebDAV storageNo separate backup password; can contain media credentials
Home, list and NEXUS filesSharing selected contentNot a complete app settings backup

These methods do not sync the media files themselves.

Protecting credentials

  • Do not publish server passwords, access tokens, cookies, OneDrive Refresh Tokens or complete signed URLs.
  • Inspect and redact logs and screenshots before reporting issues.
  • Do not publish modules containing private parameters.
  • Use HTTPS for public servers and WebDAV.
  • Do not manually edit or overwrite settings while the app runs.

Cleanup and uninstalling

Uninstalling may leave data in LocalState, LocalCache or %LOCALAPPDATA%. Back up what you need before removing it through Windows app settings or the corresponding data folder.

Caches are not reliable backups: metadata, images and playback caches may be cleared and regenerated.

FAQ

Why can't Free add a second Emby, Jellyfin or FN TV server?

Free allows one media server. Pro supports multiple servers and aggregation. File-based sources do not count as those media servers.

Do homes and modules require Pro?

No. Version 1.3.0 includes homes, multiple homes, sections and modules in Free. Aggregation, online subtitles, Anime4K, WebDAV settings backup and local metadata matching still require Pro.

Why are scanned files missing posters and details?

Free supports file browsing, but local, WebDAV and OpenList TMDB matching requires Pro. Pro users should check metadata connectivity, filenames and whether scanning is still running.

Media server sign-in fails

Check, in order:

  1. Correct source type.
  2. Correct host, port and path.
  3. Valid username and password.
  4. Server accessible from this computer's browser.
  5. System/manual proxy allows the address.
  6. Reverse proxy preserves required API paths.
  7. Self-signed certificates are fixed, or certificate policy is temporarily adjusted if appropriate.

Complete a successful login test before saving.

Images, posters or backdrops fail to load

  • Check server image URLs and TMDB access.
  • Check the software proxy and independent TMDB proxy.
  • Check for expired signed image URLs.
  • Clear the image cache under Storage & cache, then retry.
  • If only one source fails, check its permissions rather than resetting all settings.

Home is empty

  • Enable Home.
  • Enable the current home's sections.
  • Confirm linked servers, folders, lists and modules still exist.
  • Bind sources after importing a home.
  • Check TMDB, Trakt, Bangumi and module status.
  • Ensure your network proxy permits the corresponding services.

Search shows only the current server

Current-source search does not query other servers. Cross-server search needs Pro, aggregated search enabled under Settings > Server management, and each target server allowed to participate.

Modules also need their own aggregated-search participation enabled.

Playback fails or keeps loading

Try, in order:

  1. Another version in title details or the player's source menu.
  2. Another connection to the same server.
  3. Confirm the account still has playback permission.
  4. Check whether the media stream needs a proxy.
  5. Restore automatic decoding/GPU and default output.
  6. Temporarily disable custom mpv.conf.
  7. For external mpv, select a valid mpv.exe.
  8. Enable player diagnostics and export redacted logs.

401 / 403 usually indicate authentication/permission issues; 404 / 410 indicate missing resources or invalid endpoints; 5xx, timeouts and connection errors usually indicate server or network problems.

Why can't I seek?

The resource may not support Range or seeking. Live streams, some HLS, server transcodes, signed links and remote proxies may restrict jumps. If another source works, the limitation belongs to the original route.

HDR looks washed out, overexposed or black

  1. Set HDR output to follow Windows.
  2. Restore automatic tone mapping and peak detection.
  3. Restore automatic GPU and decoding.
  4. Test gpu-next and gpu.
  5. Check Windows HDR, monitor mode and graphics drivers.
  6. Temporarily disable Anime4K and custom mpv.conf.

Online subtitles show Pro

Online subtitle search requires Pro. Free still supports server external tracks, embedded tracks and imported local subtitles.

Danmaku is not appearing

Enable global and player danmaku, confirm at least one valid API is enabled, verify title/season/episode matching, check filtering, area, count and offset, or try a local danmaku file.

Next-episode preloading does not start

Confirm Beta is selected, global and per-server preloading are enabled, current-episode full caching is off, playback is near the end, the next episode shares the source, and the resource is not live, endless HLS or an unsupported transcode.

Without preloading, normal episode switching still works.

Sign-in succeeded, but settings were not uploaded automatically

This is expected. First sign-in reads the latest cloud settings; if none exist, local settings remain and defaults are not uploaded. Explicitly choose Upload sync in your profile.

Account sync reports a version conflict

Another device updated the cloud version. Refresh account state, choose which local/cloud version to retain, then upload or restore again. Newer versions are not overwritten automatically.

Why is there no WebDAV backup encryption password?

New backups use only WebDAV credentials. They rely on WebDAV permissions and HTTPS, may contain media server credentials, and belong on trusted private storage.

Does NEXUS sync keep local changes?

No. It replaces the imported item in place without checking/merging local changes or creating a duplicate. Export a file or copy the item to a new local object first if needed.

Why are Portable settings outside the program folder?

Official Portable releases use %LOCALAPPDATA%\WWPlayer-Portable so updates and program folder replacements do not overwrite settings. Migrate settings separately when moving computers.

Does clearing caches delete playback history or servers?

No. Metadata, images and playback caches are regenerable. Servers, account sessions, homes, lists and history have their own persistent storage.

Is WWPlayer a media server?

No. It is a client. Emby, Jellyfin, FN TV, WebDAV, OpenList, OneDrive, SMB and the local filesystem retain ownership of media, accounts, permissions and files.
